Should someone with oily skin moisturise?

Short answer: definitely maybe. Extended, more helpful answer: if you’re using high-octane medi-washes and creams to deal with breakouts, it’s likely you’ll get some (even slight) drying, so a light, oil-free moisturiser will counteract flaking and keep things soft and comfy. It’s also important to maintain your moisture balance because dehydrating greasy skin will only kick oil into overcompensation overdrive.
That said, however, dermatologists’ wisdom is if it ain’t broke, don’t fiddle with it. If your natural oil levels are keeping your skin moisturised and supple, you probably don’t need extra help. I hear you musing: so just how dry am I? Here’s a quick self test I picked up at The International Dermal Institute: gently press the tip of your nose with your forefinger. The more crepe-paper crinkly it looks, the thirstier your skin is. Voila!
