Let’s get back to base-ics. When it comes to your foundation coverage this summer, you need to rethink the products you use with the change in season. While winter is all about porcelain skin, hydration and basic sun protection, when it starts to heat up it’s a whole other story…These five tips will have you covered and concealed when the sun comes out.
1. New hues: OK, we know Cate Blanchett is your complexion crush so you lather sunscreen on your face every day – even through winter – but the reality is your skin will change colour during summer, even if it’s with the help of a spray tan. To prevent a pasty face, rethink your foundation colour in December. Adapting to a hue one shade darker is usually the way to go. Trust us – your Facebook profile pics will thank us.
2. Lighten up: The last thing you want is a foundation that clogs, especially when you’re working up a sweat. So don’t sweat it – opt for a lightweight formula. Max Factor’s Xperience Foundation, $36.50
(www.maxfactor.com.au) applies like silk, offering the perfect amount of coverage and still lets your freckles poke through. Bingo!
3. SPF factor: If you know you’re not going to apply sunscreen every morning religiously, then repeat this mantra: I will invest in foundation with an SPF. That’s all!
4. Think staying power: When the weather heats up, the last thing you want is for your makeup to slide. The best product for keeping your foundation in place is a primer – it goes on after moisturiser and before foundation. We know it’s an extra step in the beauty regimen, but it’s better than your face rubbing off!
5. Summer highlights: Feeling flat? Mixing a pea-size amount of highlighter or shimmer to your foundation gives you the perfect summer glow without too much glitz. Apply and conquer the dance floor.
