Tom: those paparazzi shots of my daughter are incredible

, Prev Next

In a rare interview Tom Cruise talks to Jenny Cooney Carrillo about the two loves of his life, Suri and Kate. Proud or what?

If there is one word that is used time and again to describe Tom Cruise, it’s controlling. And it seems – on this occasion at least – unfairly. For when Grazia recently caught up with Hollywood’s biggest player, he was anything but. Indeed, he was probably the most open and easygoing he has been since infamously jumping on Oprah’s couch three years ago.

His new film aside, his life with Kate, youngest daughter Suri and even his two children with former wife Nicole Kidman, Connor and Isabella (who are usually off limits) were all happily discussed. And even a few surprising revelations were divulged.

For a start, Tom doesn’t mind the paparazzi. While two-year-old Suri may have beaten the Jolie-Pitt clan to nab top spot on Forbes magazine’s Hollywood’s 10 Hottest Tots list, amazingly you won’t hear any complaints from him.

“I have to say some of those paparazzi shots of my daughter are incredible,” the proud dad exclusively tells Grazia with his signature grin during a sit down at the Four Seasons Hotel in Beverly Hills to talk about his upcoming drama, Valkyrie.

And as the relaxed 46-year-old talks about his family, he seems accepting of the media onslaught his family endures.

“As a parent you protect your children, but Suri is a very open and warm child and she’ll just wave to people on the street. She’s such a happy, fun girl,” Tom says fondly.

“It’s certainly different these days with the media, but people have been very good to us and do give us space, so I am not going to be critical,” he says.

The only time Tom does seem taken aback, and actually looks uncharacteristically speechless, is when asked if more children are on the way.

“If I say yes…” he pauses, then shifts gear and adds, “we’ve already heard she’s pregnant but it’s not true, but yes, we will have more children. When Suri was born, we just shut down everything for months just to be with her and Connor and Bella and all the family and have that precious time to enjoy together. But now I’m making movies and Kate is loving being on Broadway because it’s been a dream of hers, so we’re enjoying this time too.”

While more children may well be on the cards, it does sound as though they have their hands full with Suri in the meantime. Often spotted in stunning designer outfits, Tom admits neither he nor Kate are responsible, insisting the toddler picks out her wardrobe.

“Suri is very determined, just like her mother,” he reveals. “I’d put a pair of pants on her and the next minute I’d turn around and the pants are off and a dress is on. Kate showed her these nice gold sneakers and she said, ‘They’re nice, Mommy, but they’re boys’ shoes!’ so she is very much a real girl. In fact yesterday Kate finally did get her into pants for the first time…”
