In the spirit of neither confirming nor denying that we have any bad beauty habits, the Grazia beauty desk is ditching beauty resolutions this year. Instead we’ve workshopped a wishlist of 2009 inventions and innovations that would make the world a more beautiful place for all womankind. Thank us later.

1. The ability to instantly regrow hair when things go spectacularly wrong at the hairdresser/waxist/brow bar. Like a beauty “undo” button.

2. A permanent hair removal cream. And deo.

3. The real-deal, guaranteed anti-cellulite pill. With zero side effects. That tastes like white chocolate cheesecake and requires no bank loan.

4. An all-organic spray tan that never fades in patches, is impervious to chlorine, lasts at least a fortnight and doesn’t whiff of DHA. At all.

5. Isolation of the Jennifer Aniston hair gene. But only after replicating the molecular magnificence of Cate Blanchett’s complexion and somehow putting it in a jar.

6. Licences, issued in a similar way to drivers’ permits, to operate liquid eyeliner. Foundation-matching and application classes should be added to the high school curriculum. They still teach home ec, right? Foundation is a crucial life skill.

7. A shine-controller that truly STOPS summer oil slicks. Even in soupy South East Asian conditions. Yes, there are some very good oil-absorbers out there right now, but so far complete prevention has proven elusive. Go forth scientists.

8. Personal trend-projectors. These palm-sized guides could cross match your vital stats with catwalk makeup trends/celebrity hair styles/ bridal looks (the applications are endless) and deliver coolly unbiased calculations of success. Would also forecast the probability of cringing at photos in 10 years.

9. All cosmetic dentistry, including Zoom teeth whitening, available through Medicare. Or at least all private health funds – gap waived.

10. Brilliant battery-operated hair styling appliances for glamping holidays.
