Forget all the rumours about baby bumps and IVF – Jennifer Aniston is not and doesn’t want to be pregnant in the near future.

But in recent weeks she has started talking about adopting a baby and has looked to the example of close friend Sheryl Crow, who adopted a newborn boy, Wyatt, two years ago.

“Jen really admires the way Sheryl went about the adoption process – she didn’t go abroad with a lot of fanfare but instead quietly went to a US agency because she felt there were plenty of needy children in her own country,” says a friend.

“She’s acutely aware that if she does adopt, everyone will think she’s trying to copy Angelina, which is why an American adoption is very appealing to her.

“Sheryl has given Jen the name of the agency she used and says they were very discreet – she also said that adopting Wyatt was the best thing that’s ever happened to her.”

Jennifer has been infuriated that answers she gave in a recent interview about her new film, The Baster (in which she plays a woman who gets pregnant by artificial insemination), have been misinterpreted as her own intention to have IVF.

Rumours that she’s already pregnant by her The Bounty co-star Gerard Butler are also far off the mark…
