US fashion's next big thing is...

Sophie Theallet took out the major honours at this year’s CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund Awards, collecting US$200,000 and a year’s mentoring from a fashion industry heavyweight. Never heard of her? Well, First Lady Michelle Obama has, having worn Theallet on several occasions this year. Past winners, including Alexander Wang in 2009 and Proenza Schouler in 2008, have become household names.

A Chronicles Of Never feast

Climbing three flights of stairs, the Grazia fashion team arrive in the same room where, just days earlier, we’d viewed Gareth Moody’s A/W collection for Chronicles Of Never. We were ready for a drink – and we got a whole lot more.

Bloody Marys and glasses of Moet greeted us on arrival and the clothes from the showing had been hoisted up onto the roof. Deli-esque hunks of meat, rustic bread loaves and vintage top hats set the scene on long wooden tables. We were in for a feast! Bon appetit indeed!

Reminiscent of the dinner sequence in the noir film The Cook The Thief, His Wife & Her Lover, decadent food arrived at our table in mounds, courtesy of North Bondi Italian’s Maurice Terzini. Chicken, lamb, pork, huge spuds and asparagus…For the vegetarians among us? Lettuces were cut into quarters and stuffed with mushrooms.

As we ate and chatted under the hanging clothes, violinist Naomi Random and pianist David Lane played. This didn’t feel like a Surry Hills showroom any more, we’d been transported to another world.

Gareth had managed to throw a perfect intimate thankyou dinner like no other. It felt as raw and authentic as his clothes do.

Hot to trot

It was lifestyles of the rich and the famous on Melbourne Cup Day with special guests, American rockers Good Charlotte. The charming brothers graciously posed for pics in the nightclub-style Lavazza marquee (albeit in the roped-off section of the exclusive tent in the already very VIP Birdcage) hosted by coffee kings the Valmorbida family. The fine food distributors treated guests to an antipasto spread by chef Guy Grossi. New dad Joel Madden was sadly sans Nicole Richie, and his brother Benji narrowly missed ex-fiance Sophie Monk, who was making a beeline for the Emirates marquee.

Opening Ceremony opening party, Tokyo

All the cool kids flocked to Tokyo for the grand opening of cult retail store Opening Ceremony in Shibuya. You had Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen in their Maison Michel lace animal ears (we want!), Kirsten Dunst channelling a Harajuku girl in a black and white Lolita-esque dress, Jason Schwartzman and Stavros Niarchos. Designer Alexander Wang was also there with his muse Erin Wasson. (Shouldn’t they be putting the finishing touches on their collections? New York Fashion Week starts September 10!)

The September Issue NY premiere

The Prada Cruise-clad devil herself and star of the show, US Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour, hosted the New York premiere of The September Issue, the R.J. Cutler documentary chronicling the making of the fashion bible’s 2007 September edition, which remains its biggest issue to date.

So who made the cut on Wintour’s guest list for the exclusive soiree? Vogue favourite Renee Zellweger and cover girl Sienna Miller, looking as “toothy” as ever (just one of Wintour’s cutting critiques of their cover star, you’ll have to watch for yourself to find out what else she had to say…) have already been spotted on the red carpet at the Museum of Modern Art in New York.

Vogue staffers Andre Leon Talley and Grace Coddington (who we think steals the show with her kooky musings on life with Nuclear Wintour) are also expected, along with Patrick Demarchelier, Tommy Hilfiger, Phillip Lim, Alexa Chung, Marc Jacobs, Donna Karan, Zac Posen and Jason Wu.

Wintour is going all out to support The September Issue, even agreeing to appear on the Late Show With David Letterman this coming Monday. A Conde Nast rep revealing to the New York Post she: "is going to ad-lib it. She's done plenty of live TV before. She's looking forward to it."

No word yet on whether she will come out from behind her trademark dark sunglasses. Stay tuned…

The September Issue is out now.

Louis Vuitton opens in Westfield Bondi Junction

Louis Vuitton opened its second Westfield store this week. First there was the gigantic, ultra-indulgent store in London's new White City Westfield. I visited it not so long ago while I was doing a spot of shopping at the UK Grazia's pop-up charity store. And now we too have our very own LV shopping centre store offering.

The Prince, the polo and the A-listers

,

You might think that stomping out divots on the polo pitch doesn’t sound like the most glamorous of past times, but when it involved watching Prince Harry play in the 2009 Verve Clicquot Manhattan Polo Classic charity match on Governor’s Island in New York the A-list came out in their droves.

Click here to see which other A-list stars attended the polo

We spotted Kate Hudson and Chloe Sevigny in their demure polo outfits and hats, designer Marc Jacobs with his fiance Lorenzo Martone chatting up a storm with pal Madonna (who dressed down in denim for the occasion) and her boys David and Jesus in tow and that was only the beginning. Amazing to see what a royal visit can do.

With this AAA-list crowd, most of the action happened off the field. But in case you’re interested, Prince Harry’s team took out the title.
