Miranda Kerr may be one of the most sought-after models in the world and Abbey Lee is loved by the likes of Karl Lagerfeld and Frida Giannini – but we’ve always wondered - what did the industry think about them when they first tried to make it?
Well yay for casting director and founder of COACD Douglas Perrett, who is publishing a book that answers this very question. Yes, Wild Things is filled with Polaroids and his juicy first impressions of up-and-coming models. But Douglas wasn’t always blown away by what he saw.
Of Arizona Muse he says: “Didn’t get her at first; her hair; her face.” Ouch. And Candice Swanepoel? “… Found her very Barbie-like”. Rosie Huntington-Whiteley received a tick though: “Upbeat character, she seemed to have her eye on the big picture.”
As for Abbey Lee? "They kept sending her over to hang out. I wasn't sure why, neither was she." But if anyone is the posterchild of incorrect first impressions, it’s Miranda…
"She would always do her castings with her blonde friend, another Aussie who would always get the job. She never booked the jobs." Yup, what a difference a couple of years makes.
