The Grammy Awards went on today in the wake of Whitney Houston’s unexpected death and the stars were in a subdued mood on the red carpet – except for Nicki Minaj, who turned up in a red satin Versace cape "nun's outfit" with "the Pope" as her date.

High necklines were a key trend – Taylor Swift, Katy Perry, Alicia Keys, Carrie Underwood and Adele (who took out a sway of Grammies including Album of the Year for 21) demurred from showing cleavage. However Rihanna, always the Rude Girl, bucked the trend in a plunging Giorgio Armani gown.

The musical WAGS also made a splash; Victoria’s Secret Angel Anne V (the girlfriend of Maroon 5’s Adam Levine)pulled off the highest thigh-high split we’re ever seen. Fellow Angel alum, a pregnant Lily Aldridge, looked sweet in a printed flowing dress with her husband, Kings of Leon’s Caleb Followill, by her side. Amber Rose (Kanye West’s ex) was also there in a daring yellow gown, alongside her boyfriend, rapper Wiz Khalifa.
