Australian actors Jacki Weaver, Nicole Kidman, Geoffrey Rush and Toni Collette have all received nominations for the 68th Golden Globe awards overnight. Cue nationwide applause!
Jacki is up for the award for best performance by a supporting actress for her role in Animal Kingdom, which won 10 gongs at the AFI awards on Saturday, including a best actress prize for her. For the Globes win, Jacki is up against Amy Adams, Helena Bonham Carter, Mila Kunis and Melissa Leo.
Veteran nominee Nicole Kidman has been nominated for best actress for Rabbit Hole and, while she has our vote, she’s up against some tough competition in the form of: Natalie Portman, Michelle Williams, Halle Berry and Jennifer Lawrence. Natalie’s performance in Black Swan has had Oscar buzz surrounding it since the beginning, and everyone knows the Golden Globes are an Oscar dress rehearsal, no?
Geoffrey’s nom is for best performance by a supporting actor for The King's Speech and Toni’s for best actress in a television series for United States Of Tara, a gong she won last year.
