The
Grazia team take the latest, greatest and most fabulous finds from our fashion cupboard out for a spin
The candidate: Ana Almeida,
Grazia's online editor
The mission, should you choose to accept it: To spend a day in the new Marc Jacobs Macha shoes the ones with the crazy non-heel that juts out of the sole at a right-angle. Even Victoria Beckham, who is the face of the label and has claimed she "just can’t concentrate in flats", hasn’t been spotted braving these babies.
The case in favour: I must admit after my initial trepidation (that gap where the "normal" heel should be really does look more than a little bit daunting) and many practice laps around the office, the Macha heels do have a bouncy walking-on-air feeling to them that is quite appealing. Plus, the sheer mental prowess and calf muscle control it takes to stay upright in these must burn the equivalent amount of calories as a session with the Stairmaster at the gym!
The case against: Spending a day trying to navigate the city's streets in these (non-existent) heels if you
haven't spent those hours at the gym with the Stairmaster (like, ahem, me) poses problems. One misstep or lapse in concentration and you could suddenly find yourself sprawled on the pavement with nothing but "poor fashion victim" glances from strangers to add to the pain and humiliation.
The verdict: Let's face it, getting around in heels just shouldn't be this hard, and that's coming from me who's willing to sacrifice more than a
little comfort to wear my latest sky-high stilettos. Only die-hard Marc Jacobs fans or dedicated followers of fashion need apply.
Where to buy: Marc Jacobs' "Macha" shoe, $775, available from David Jones, (02) 9266 5439; www.davidjones.com.au
