So much for the “new year, new hair” resolutions. Celebs are getting in early, chopping and changing it up pre-Christmas.

Nicole Richie has made a sudden switch from Californian beach blonde waves to brunette with a blunt fringe, saying: “I've been pregnant and nursing for the past two years, and I really haven't been able to do a lot with my hair colour. I was sick of being blonde…I feel smarter already.”

Other celebs jumping the gun are Salma Hayek, who chopped her long hair into a blunt bob earlier this week, and Cheryl Cole, who has replaced her extensions with a collarbone-skimming shorter do.
